Montgomery Township Schools

The Jennings County Board of Commissioners created Montgomery Township at its first meeting in 1817. Since Montgomery Township included what is now Lovett and Marion Townships, it had some twelve common schools. These were numbered and shown on the Atlas of Jennings County 1874 and listed in the county history (Jennings County Indiana 1816-1999). As these one room schools were consolidated, they included: Solomon's Temple (Coffee Creek School), Lowry, Dix, Commiskey, Wells, and Paris Crossing. The high school began in 1884.
